Trans Am GOLD Dash Bezel Refinishing Service!
This month we are reviewing the work of Randy Comb’s dash bezel refinishing. Randy has been refinishing the gold color to these units for about 3 years now. The service quality is very good, and the finished units look very good. Randy charges $40 for a bezel, and the quality of work, is that of services we have found for between $150 -$225. Product for the dollar this simply can not be beat.
We sent Randy a stock silver unit which he refinished for us. The turn around time was ten days which is close to a week shorter then the average time he says a unit takes. We were contacted when he received the unit and also once again when he shipped the unit back. It seems that customer service is an area he takes much pride in!
The unit looks very good, we placed our unit beside a factory unit and the color was very close. Other services out there do not appear to be this close in their color match. The gold is sprayed onto the bezel so there are some very mild “heavy” areas in the paint, which can not be noticed unless the unit is placed directly into the sunlight. This is very mild, and is impossible to avoid unless you used an assembly line type machine to apply the finish.
The overall quality is very good, I would say not for use on the 20k concourse show car, but for the high end cruise night car you can not go wrong. We would suggest the person looking to have their bezel refinished goes ahead and has their steering wheel spokes and shifter bezel refinished by Randy also. This way all the units look new together and when installed it will be hard for even the trained eye to detect any color variance.
Things to know about the service, Randy will remove all of the factory gold when a gold bezel is used as a core. This makes the finish product look even and promotes a better color quality. Scratches in the unit can NOT be repaired so try and send out as clean a unit as possible. Adding the new color will hide some of the scratching but no all. Randy also can not repair pitting or heavy rust on the unit. The final opinion of Fbodywarehouse is bang for the buck you will NOT fund better. It is nice to see that days of spending $150 and up for this service are finally long gone!

DRAWBACKS
*Does not remove scratches from unit at this time.
If you send a unit with scratches the new gold will hide them some but they will not"disappear" altogether.
